Note on Area Coverage and Crop Weather Prospect  of Jute/Mesta crop during Kharif 2012 for week ending 13.03.2013
A. Crop Weather Prospect at All India Level:
As per available information, the area coverage under jute is about 7.86 lakh ha. during current year as compared to 8.26 lakh ha coverage during previous year. 
The lower coverage is due to non receipt of adequate rains during sowing period mainly in West Bengal and Bihar Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed.
B. Crop Weather Prospect State-wise:
1.. Andhra Pradesh: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of mesta is completed in the state
2.. Assam: During the week under report, the state received scanty rainfall. Harvesting ofjute &  mesta is completed in the state
3.. Bihar: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed in the state
4.. Meghalaya: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed in the state
5.. Nagaland: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and  mesta is completed in the state
6.. Odhisha: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed in the state
7.. Tripura: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed in the state
8.. Uttar Pradesh: During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute is completed in the state
9.. West Bengal : During the week under report, the state received no rainfall. Harvesting of jute and mesta is completed in the state
C. Price Situation: As per information collected from agmarknet.nic.in, the price of Jute fibre was ruling higher than the MSP of Rs.2200/q of TD-5 Grade Ex–Assam for 2012-13
 in general in the selected markets of the Jute growing areas during the week ending on 13.02.2013. The average price of TD-5 Grade in Assam varies from Rs. 2300 to Rs. 2750 per quintal. 
The average price of TD-5 Grade in South Bengal varies from Rs. 2420 to Rs. 2875 per quintal and in North Bengal; it varies from Rs. 2800 to Rs. 3000 per quintal. 
D. Procurment position: During the crop year 2012-13, a total quantity of 567835 quintals of raw jute has been procured so far (up to 08.01.2013) on Minimum Support Price (MSP), 
out of which 522360.53 quintals is procured by the Jute Corporation of India (JCI) and 45474.66 quintals is cooperative purchase. The state-wise figures are attached
